Dr. Cecilia Leung
Dr. Leung holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Psychology from The University of Hong Kong, where her early academic foundation began with sleep research alongside Dr. Lau. She earned both her Master of Social Science in Clinical Psychology and her Doctor of Psychology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
Throughout her career, Dr. Leung has specialized in supporting neurodivergent individuals and their families. While serving at a non-governmental organization for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), she co-developed evidence-based social competence and parenting interventions alongside Dr. Raymond Chan. Their group training programs—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy – Context-based Social Competence Training for Adolescents with ASD (CBT-CSCA) and Core Autism Parenting Skills (CAPS)—have been widely adopted by industry professionals and published in international journals. She also collaborated with Dr. Chan and Professor Patrick Leung (CUHK) to establish localized assessment tools for ASD.
Dr. Leung began her formal training in family therapy in 2019, integrating systemic concepts into her work with adolescents experiencing emotional distress, as well as adults navigating marital and parent-child challenges. In 2023, she was invited by Dr. Lee Wai Yung to join the clinical team at the Asian Academy of Family Therapy. Her extensive clinical portfolio includes family-based interventions for school refusal, eating disorders, self-harm, behavioral challenges, separation anxiety, domestic violence, and marital conflict.
Recognizing that many mothers struggle with self-doubt, blurred boundaries, and burnout, Dr. Leung co-created a specialized self-growth group with Ms Sarah Tam to empower mothers to break free from these constraints and prioritize their own well-being. Together, they have also partnered with primary and secondary schools to deliver family-centered parent education courses that encourage reflection on personal emotional health and marital dynamics.
Dr. Leung’s doctoral research, supervised by Professor Patrick Leung, investigated the long-term patterns of child internalizing, externalizing, and attention problems from preschool through late childhood. Her study revealed two critical findings: family conflict is the sole indicator associated with the resolution or change in all three problem areas, while a child's self-perception serves as the primary predictor of their functional outcomes.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Leung is an amateur astrology enthusiast who regularly writes on the intersection of psychological phenomena and astrology. She actively welcomes collaborative opportunities in academic research, clinical intervention design, and school-based parent education.
